DayZ single player / practice / training / (not really) cheating - DaiZy

DayZ single player DaiZy

Once upon a time there was a single player mod file for DayZ written by a chap named Kronzky. It was pretty good and added a whole new dimension to playing DayZ. Sadly, for various reasons Kronzky and Rocket (the DayZ developer) fell out and they both decided that the file should be discontinued.

There are videos out there on YouTube that explain how to get single player working with DayZ. Most of them are patched-up versions of the original Kronzky single player file (which only worked up to DayZ version 1.7.2.5). So most of those videos are concerned with downgrading your version of DayZ and will mess up your online DayZ folder. They also lack AI units, helicopter crashes and all kinds of stuff.

DaiZy works with any version of DayZ, but you're advised to use the most recent one. We also test against future versions of DayZ before they're released to make sure this keeps working.

DaiZy (yes, it's a stupid name) has been written from scratch and is completely different from those patched-up versions. It is designed to be a simulation of online play and includes vehicle spawns, helicopter crash sites and even has AI bandit units.

This is not the only version of DaiZy. We have a forum where we have many other versions with different features (better AI handling, bandit groups, extra weapons, base-building, built-in cheats, etc) and supporting different maps (Namalsk, Lingor, Taviana, etc). The version I'm detailing here is the default Chernarus one

Guarantee

This single player mod will not cause you to be banned from online play. Even the cheats (if you choose to install them) have been carefully selected so they cannot be used online. Servers will refuse to let you connect if you have them installed. You will not be banned.

If you are banned from online play because of this mod, I will personally buy you another copy of the game. I've only ever had one person try to claim and they had installed a completely different version of single player that was supplied as an exe file from an entirely different site.

I have complete confidence in DaiZy and all the variants on our forums. We don't present them as exe files or installers so that you can know that there is nothing that can harm your computer. If you need further reassurance, feel free to ask.

Before we start

Before you start, you need to have DayZ installed. If you haven't got that up and running, go off and read this detailed guide that over a million others have used. Go on, I'll wait.

http://kodabar.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/how-to-install-dayz-with-arma-2-free.html
If you're using the Six Play / Play with Six launcher, it will put your DayZ files in a folder located within My Documents. I caution against using Six because of this. Every other launcher and installer places the DayZ files within the Operation Arrowhead program folder.

If you're using Six, please download and use DayZ Commander instead. If you want to keep using Six, then just use it to play online multiplayer, but use DayZ Commander for single player.

http://www.dayzcommander.com/

DaiZy exists separately from DayZ and does not interfere with it. They use separate folders,

I get asked this a lot: it is possible to run DaiZy with pirate versions of ArmA and Operation Arrowhead, but I will not provide support or encouragement for people to do so. In using a pirate version, you may come up against errors when installing beta patches or updates.

Where to get it

The files are hosted on DropBox. I have previously had them on Mediafire, but I'm sorry to say that Mediafire have repeatedly taken down my files in response to incorrect and invalid DMCA notices. It's pretty frustrating when I get told that a ten megabyte zip file is a copy of the film Avatar and then have to wait thirty days for them to respond to a counter-notice. Sigh.

There are two files to download. These are:
DaiZy+_v[Rz0].rar
DaiZy_v042c.Chernarus.pbo

Get there here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qew6q975jamesve/DaiZy%2B_v%5BRz0%5D.rar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3zn95ugved0b5bk/DaiZy_v042c.Chernarus.pbo

Here are the original Mediafire links in case you have problems using DropBox:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/nmcbaam2wmo9znt/DaiZy%2B_v%5BRz0%5D.rar
http://www.mediafire.com/download/7uee6ei93ge2mq4/DaiZy_v042c.Chernarus.pbo

Right. You've got both files that you need. We're finished downloading.

How to install it

The video above will take you through the whole process of installing DaiZy. It's all you need. Below are step by step instructions with screenshots that go into more detail than the video.

1. Open the DaiZy+_v[Rz0].rar file you've downloaded. I'm using WinRar. You may be using something different, but I'm using WinRar. Extract the files to a temporary folder

2. Go to your Operation Arrowhead program folder. Depending on from where you've got Operation Arrowhead the location may be in one of several places.

If you got it from Steam, it's most likely in:
C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead
If you used a boxed retail copy, it's most likely in:
C:\Program files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\arma 2 operation arrowhead
Inside there is a folder called @DayZ and inside that is another folder called addons where the actual files from DayZ are stored. Check the image above to make sure.

Create a new folder called @DaiZy. Copy the addons from the @DayZ folder to this new folder. Take the files you've just extracted and place them in the @DaiZy\addons folder, over-writing the files inside.

DayZ disables the single player menu and these files will re-enable it as well as provide access to extra features.

3. Go to your Operation Arrowhead program folder and locate the Missions sub-folder. Take the map file you've downloaded and place it in that folder.

Done that? Good. You've installed all the files.

Creating a shortcut

If you're using a launcher (like DayZ Commander) to launch DayZ, I'd suggest creating a shortcut in order to play single player. The launchers are great, but they're not designed for offline play. This is how to create a shortcut.

Inside your Operation Arrowhead folder is an icon marked Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch. Right click on this icon and select Properties.

There are two lines that matter. The Target line should read something like:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash
This is presuming that you're using Steam and that Steam is installed in the default location on your C drive and you're using Windows 7 64 bit. It will have a different path if you have it installed elsewhere. You need to modify the target line to say something like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash -skipIntro -mod=@DaiZy
If you're not using Steam or you have Steam installed in a different location the line will reflect where you have the game installed.

For the "Start in" line, make sure it says:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\
Or again, wherever your Steam folder or game folder actually is. Make sure that it points to the main Operation Arrowhead folder and not to the beta folder. Yeah, it's running the exe from the beta folder, but it's running it in the main folder as that's where all the rest of the files are.

Copy this shortcut to your Desktop or some other place from which you'll want to run the game. The shortcut in the Operation Arrowhead folder will get over-written every time you update the beta patch, so do not rely on using that one.

How to run it

Fire up DayZ as normal and select Singleplayer for a change.

Choose Scenarios now.

On this screen, you have several files from which to choose.

Select the DaiZy_v042.Chernarus file. Note at the bottom left of the screen is a box that probably says Recruit. This is the difficulty level. Click it until it displays the difficulty you'd like. There's little difference between the difficulty levels, but the highest difficulty will disable vision dots, crosshairs, your position on the map and third person view. I suggest you use Veteran which gives a similar level of options to those available online. Then choose Play.

You may find that, if you've installed DaiZy before, it doesn't say Play, but instead offers Resume and Restart. Choose Restart.

Ooh, how exciting.

Right. We're in. That's it - everything's working.

Known bugs

Warning: if you spawn in with this skin (headphones, scarf, etc), there is a problem. In trying to include more content from ArmA 2, the player skins were included. If you spawn in with this skin, you won't have a backpack or be able to pick one up. This is because backpacks weren't included in ArmA 2, but first showed up in Operation Arrowhead.

There are a few things you can do:

1. Play as a female. In online play, most people avoid playing as a female because they can't wear ghillie suits. But in single player, ghillie suits and other clothes are purely cosmetic and do not affect how visible you are to AI units.

2. Select Restart from the menu until you appear with the normal skin and a backpack

3. Use the SupportCall addon (details in the section about adding cheats) to choose a new skin. Ones marked with a (B) support backpacks.

You can also use the rMod addon to allow backpacks with any skin, but that's getting a bit beyond the scope of this article.

There is also another bug when it comes to chopper crash sites. The loot that spawns there is just normal loot, not the military grade stuff that should be found there. There's nothing that can be done about that other than to use a different version from our forum.

AI units

There are AI bandits within the game. You'll encounter then pretty much anywhere on the map and they will fire at you. They have a variety of weapons and outfits.

There are friendly AI units too. You encounter them by approaching a church in Chernogorsk or Electrozavodsk. As you get near the doors, you'll probably hear them report in and you'll see a couple of icons in the bottom right of the screen. By default they will shoot at nearby zombies and will follow you (although not too closely). You can command them as well, although it does involve using ArmA's slightly clunky order system. Full details can be found in the ArmA 2 documentation, but the basic method is to press their respective F keys and using the mousewheel menu to issue an order. For instance, if I have two companions and I want them to board a vehicle with me, I'd press F2 and F3 to highlight them and then select Get In from the mousewheel menu.

There are limitations to the AI units. Friendlies may not shoot at every zombie in sight and they probably won't fire at bandits (there's only so much that can be done within the ArmA 2 engine - remember, this is a mod of a mod of an ageing game). They can get hurt and you can heal them as you would any normal player, but they won't heal you. Just think of them as stupid and selfish friends.

Adding cheats (optional)

By default, DaiZy plays just like online multiplayer. Some players would like to use cheats to be able to spawn in units, weapons, etc.

The recommended way of adding cheats is to use the Support Call addon as written by Kronzky.

Go and download the file from the link above.

Open the zip file that you've just downloaded and extract the KRON_SupportCall.pbo file

Now go into your Operation Arrowhead program folder. You need to create a folder alongside the @DaiZy folder in just the same way as before. Call this new folder @Kron. Inside it, create an Addons folder. Inside that, place the  KRON_SupportCall.pbo file

That sounds a little complicated. The structure is like this:
OA\@Kron\Addons
Where OA is your Operation Arrowhead program folder.

With the file in there, you now need to add a bit to your shortcut. Open up the shortcut just as you did earlier and add ;@Kron behind the -mod=@DaiZy part, so it reads -mod=@DaiZy;@Kron

Make sure the semi-colon(;) is in there. Now when you load the game it'll load Support Call. It won't interfere with your normal DayZ game because only that shortcut loads Support Call.

Using Support Call

When you're playing the game, press Escape to bring up the main menu and you'll see a new button at the bottom marked Call for Support which you can press to bring up the cheat menu.

There are several sections to the menu, but I'm not going to go into them all here. You'll find pretty full documentation on Kronzky's page although you should note that not every feature will be available in DaiZy. Also note that the first time you access it, there will be a delay as it builds a list of the available equipment.

Equipment or vehicles that you request will be air-dropped near your current position.

Adding Loki's Lost Key (optional)

Loki's Lost Key adds even more cheats. It allows you to teleport, spawn aircraft (SupportCall doesn't allow this), go skydiving and a lot more besides.

It involves several steps, so I wrote a separate article for that. Click the link below:

http://kodabar.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/how-to-install-lokis-lost-key-for-daizy.html

Using launcher utilities

Dave UK pointed me in the direction of an excellent mod launcher for the ArmA games. The ArmA II Game Launcher by Spirited Machine is very simple and rather easy to configure. It allows you to add and remove any mod folder from your startup options. As you can see in the screenshot above, it detects all possible mod folders and allows you to turn them on and off with just a tick in a box. You can save different configurations and even create shortcuts with it. It saves a lot of hassle when you're using multiple versions across multiple maps (see Other versions of DaiZy below).

You can download the launcher from here:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241

There's also this launcher which works in a similar way:
http://arma2.paro-technology.com/?page_id=18

Other versions of DaiZy

We've got a forum. There's a tab up the top of this page marked DayZ single player forum which you can click to go there or click the link below.

http://kodabar-dayz-daizy-single-player-forum.163.s1.nabble.com/

There are several people working on different versions of DaiZy that have features or maps that aren't in the official version. This is also the place to go to ask questions about using other maps, etc. This page is really just for installing the basic Chernarus single player mod.

Troubleshooting

What if it doesn't work? I should mention that this is very much an ongoing project and that there are bugs and problems. The author of the single player file does read this page so please report any problems or bugs you encounter. Heck, let us know if you've got any ideas for inclusion in a later version.

"...content deleted...Chernarus" errors

The game is unable to find the Chernarus content. DayZ and DaiZy use Operation Arrowhead for just about everything, but the Chernarus files come from ArmA 2.

Go into your ArmA 2 program folder. Locate the Addons folder, right-click on it and select Copy. Now go into your Operation Arrowhead program folder and Paste it there.

If you're comfortable with using a command line, you can use an elevated command prompt and the mklink command to create a symbolic link to the Addons folder and save some disk space. I'm not going to provide any details about this as it's a powerful command and you should only use it if you know what you're doing.

"...content deleted...dayz.whatever" errors

If the game complains that there is deleted content, then it's for one of three reasons:

1. The shortcut used to start the game is incorrect. Got back and make sure it has the bit -mod=@DaiZy in it.

2. The files are in the wrong place. They should be in:
OA\@DaiZy\Addons
(Where OA is your Operation Arrowhead program folder)
It's all too easy to put them in OA\@DaiZy and miss the Addons sub-folder. The sheer preponderance of Addons folders doesn't help.

"CA" errors

When this error comes up, it's because you didn't update Operation Arrowhead before installing DayZ. Go to this page and follow Step 2 onwards. Continue through the other steps too. Although you may have installed the beta patch, etc already, installing the update has over-written these, so you'll need to do that again.

"PMC" errors

When this error comes up, it's because you didn't update Operation Arrowhead before installing DayZ. Go to this page and follow Step 2 onwards. Continue through the other steps too. Although you may have installed the beta patch, etc already, installing the update has over-written these, so you'll need to do that again.

You're invisible when you spawn, can't move, can't kill zombies

You need a more recent version of the beta patch. Use DayZ Commander or follow this link and install it yourself.
http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

You don't have the "Launch ArmA 2 OA Beta Patch" shortcut

You need to install the beta patch. Use DayZ Commander or follow this link and install it yourself.
http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

You've switched to a newer version of DaiZy, but you can't access the new features

Unfortunately whenever you change or update the single player mission file it tends to have problems with existing save files. You either won't be able to load the save file at all or you'll be able to load it, but you won't be able to use any of the new features or the results may be unpredictable. This also happens when there's an update for the main DayZ files as well.

The only thing you can do is to select Restart rather than Resume and lose your save file.

This is a limitation in the way that ArmA 2 works with save files and nothing can be done about that. Sorry. DaiZy is a mod of a mod of a game that's primarily designed to be an online multiplayer game, so not everything is going to work in the way we would like it.

If you need my help

Playing around with these files does require a certain familiarity with copying and moving files around and it can sometimes be a little complicated and confusing.

If you need help, leave a message in the comments. There are many different ways in which you could have DayZ and the ArmA 2 games installed, so please try to leave as much useful information as possible.

  • What version of DayZ are you running?
  • Are you using a launcher (Six Play, DayZ Commander, Worrom's Updater, etc) to run the game?
  • If you're getting an error message, what does it say?
  • Are you using Steam?
  • From where did you obtain your copies of the ArmA games?
  • Are you able to run vanilla DayZ multiplayer?

It's pretty time-consuming to answer all these comments, so if you can leave information like the stuff listed above, it saves a lot of time. I answer every comment or question on this article and several others and a pile of YouTube videos as well. That adds up to dozens of questions a day. Please at least try to solve your problem before you ask for help. Writing in capitals, using txt/leet speak or writing "plz help!!!" just annoys me and does not make me want to help you.

I help everyone and I make sure that everyone's problem is fixed. I have never failed to sort anyone's problems yet. If you get totally stuck, I can even be persuaded to use Teamviewer to install it for you.

I have anonymous comments enabled (I hate having to register for stuff too), but if you're going to leave an anonymous comment, please add a word or a name or something to distinguish you from all the other anonymous commenters. It can get pretty confusing trying to sort out who's who.

If you leave comments as a user/identity it asks for your email address. The only reason it does this is to send you a notification when a reply is left to your comment. I don't have any way of seeing the email addresses and they don't get given to email spammers or anything like that.

I only provide support on here for the version from this article. If you need help with any of the versions from the forum, ask on there.

Comments

I try to make sure that every question in the comments is answered. If you haven't had a reply after a couple of days, try asking again - I've probably just overlooked yours in the pile of others.

Note that the comments system gets a bit broken when there are over 200 comments displayed, so I regularly have to delete some of them. I do try to make sure that useful comments are left in place though.

    1. Not really. It has a default length of time it takes (which is hours). The only thing you can do is to completely empty a building of all loot (including empty tin cans and other rubbish) which will cause it to respawn sooner (but it still takes quite a while). You're best off roaming round the map.

      Delete
    2. Loot cycling is how you get it done. I have a console command written that does it now, but before that, I did the following: Lure a zed to the building you are looting and kill it. Your new buddy -- let's call him Lenny -- is going to be the receptacle for all the junk you want to cycle. Pick everything up and deposit it on Lenny's corpse. Lenny will hold the junk a while until he despawns. This way, you don't leave unsightly piles of junk all over the map. With the loot spawns clear, more things will spawn the next time you are nearby.

Nowadays, I use a console command to wipe everything. Get stra_debug2.pbo and put it in the @DayZ folder wherever your ArmA2 OA application lives. This console is quite handy and makes for a fun learning tool as well. Once you have the console working put something like this in an exec line:

      {deleteVehicle _x} forEach nearestObjects [position player,["WeaponHolder","WeaponHolderBase"],20];

This deletes loot on the ground for 20 meters from the center of the building you are nearest to. If you want to mark the building as having never been looted, you can execute the following:

      nearestBuilding player setVariable["looted",0,true];

This last line you will find particularly useful if you change the time the wrong way or have some other bug that breaks the loot spawns. Use the scripts to grind an area, or don't, your game, play it your way. I find that it gets pretty close to killing immersion, but not quite. It's possible to be more sophisticated about which loot to delete, but I have never really needed it. Hope this helps!

  2. I just want to say that this is an AWESOME creation! As an older gamer (40+), I've been sick and tired of being killed by teleporters and hackers 2-3 times a day easily, and this DaiZy mod totally let's me take my time and enjoy the game without someone teleporting me 1,000 feet into the air.

Been playing on the .40 Lingor and Chernarus maps, and man...SO much fun. Even been poking around on the WIP other maps you put out.

I have a couple of requests, though; things I'd absolutely love to see if you could fit them in somehow:
-Can you alter / edit Bloodbags so they're usable on yourself, or something like that?
-Can you add bandits and survivors back to the maps? They really added a lot to the gameplay!
-Vehicles on Lingor / Helicoptor crash sites back on both?

    Thanks again for this!

  3. kodabar,

I can't figure out how the heck this Youtube dude is able to spawn stuff in Dayz using voice and just Glovepie. O_O

Hes got new maps working too. The latest is the Hawaiian map. Have you or anyone here managed to do the same? or maybe get this guy to share?

    1. Getting it working with new maps isn't particularly difficult, but it's not the top priority right now. In the "Experimental" section above are a selection of other maps that can be tried out - they're not complete and working by any means, but you can see the progress that has been made.

Getting GlovePie to work with DayZ also isn't terribly difficult. Have a go yourself. You can do a lot more than just use voice commands.
      http://glovepie.org/glovepie.php

A while back, I tried a face tracking thing (a bit like TrackIR) using a webcam and that worked surprisingly well with ArmA 2 and DayZ. There's all kinds of things you can try.

As for the chap in the videos, I don't know what setup he's using to get single player working. There's at least one other single player effort out there somewhere, but I can't find any details about it or anything to download. Why not write to the chap from the videos? He might be willing to share.

  4. why dont the bodyguards get in vehicles with you?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Bodyguards will get in vehicles with you. It's a little confusing as they use the ArmA 2 system of command of which you probably won't have experience.

When you summon bodyguards, you may notice some icons along the bottom left of the screen. There's one icon for each bodyguard. Press the function keys to select each bodyguard (ie F1 for the first one, F2 for the second, etc) and you will then be able to issue orders through the mousewheel menu.

The easiest way is to get into a vehicle, press F1 (for instance) and then issue the order to "Get in". You will have to issue similar orders to get them out.

There's loads of fun to be had by issuing orders to bodyguards.

  6. Do you ever think you'll find the solution to the problem where we can't pick up bags/use them?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The bag problem is caused by spawning as the guy with the headphones and scarf. In trying to include as many ArmA 2 objects as possible, we forgot that backpacks were only introduced in Operation Arrowhead. So if you spawn as 'headphones-guy', you'll never be able to pick up and use backpacks. The only solution is to respawn until you appear as the normal survivor model.

It's a pain in the arse, I know, but the solution is fairly straightforward, if annoying. As the rest of the mod works just fine, I'm reluctant to have this changed for fear of introducing new errors. There are other variant of the DaiZy mod in our forum (linked to above) which do not have the same problem.

  7. Three questions:

What does it mean if an AI ally's image is orange instead of green?

How can I make an AI ally stop grunting after the first time they're hit? I've given her about six blood packs, more than enough for full health...

Can I give my AI allies' different guns somehow?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The orange icon means they're out of ammunition.

And yeah, they'll whine and grunt when they take the slightest damage. Sadly, there's nothing you can do about this. Oh and you can't really give them different guns either. You can put guns and ammo in their backpacks (if they have them), but they're too stupid to take them out and use them.

Sadly, there are certain limitations to the AI and we're very much bumping against them. If you have a look in our forums, there are DaiZy variants which, as well as supporting other maps, have differences such as AI behaviour.

    2. get the AI in a cat open the map go to gear open AI gear take of is gun put another gun and they will use it only give im one gun (sorry for bad english) try it

      Delete
    3. Actually, you CAN give them new guns and ammo. Place the weapon/ammo on the ground, then press their respective F# key then press 6. You'll see 8 options. 1 is Recruit Unit, 2-8 are for weapons that are in the area. Just find the weapon that you laid down for him and select it. The AI will run over and pick it up, dropping his currently held weapon. It's actually an easy way to find weapons also. Just tell the AI Survivor to pick up a gun that's in the list and then follow him to it, telling him to Stop before he picks it up.

    4. hmmm me i can change there guns by using there no. ex F2 is your 1st partner after pressing the f1 press 6 and find some items on the ground like guns and find the (take ex. M16A2) the current weapon they holding will be place to the ground also you can take their items if you want and change it!

    1. Changing the bandit spawning is not possible from within the mod. It's something that can be edited within the source files, but it's not something that most players will be able to do for themselves (it involves decompiling files, editing the source and recompiling the PBO files into a format that can be loaded by OA).

The version of DaiZy in this article is just designed as a basic reproduction of the multiplayer experience (it's why we have cheats installed separately, for instance). But in our forums, we have a host of talented chaps who provide alternative versions with different features (eg maps other than Chenrarus are supported, cheats are built in, etc).

Many of the variations on the forum alter the way in which bandits spawn. For instance there's one where bandits spawn at a much greater distance (good for sniper practice) and another where bandits will only spawn behind you (now that makes for a heck of a challenge). Have a look through the section called "Unofficial DaiZy versions" in the forum to find one that matches the bandit spawning that you'd like:

    1. It's not installed correctly.

Recent versions of DayZ disable the single player menu. The files inside DaiZy+_v[Rz0].rar re-enable the single player option by over-writing some of the DayZ files. If, during the installation of DaiZy single player, you were asked if you wished to over-write some files, then you've installed the files correctly. If you weren't asked, then the files are in the wrong place.

If the files are in the right place, then the shortcut is not loading single player. Check the target line of your shortcut to makes sure it includes -mod=@DaiZy

If you still can't get it working, write back telling me where your Operation Arrowhead program folder is and paste here the target section of your shortcut.

  17. Hey, nice work!.
But you could add some details about Steam's DayZ.

Here's the differences that got me struggling for about 5 hours to get the mod to the mod to work with my steam version.
-You CAN'T have both @DayZ and @DaiZy folders togheter under ArmA2 OA folder. Apparently, the beta launcher will load every folder with an @ on it, causing a conflict. That will make zombies, vehicles, roads, bridges, rails, port areas and nearly all loot spawning buildings not appear.
-There's no need to even create a shortcut or set launch properties. Just create the @DaiZy folder as described on the current guide, place the @DayZ folder somewhere else (like in ArmA2 OA/Backup/@dayz, works like a charm), add the mission file where it is needed to be and you're good to go.
Apparently, the devs are making the game load every @folder, so that makes it easier to add and manage mods to the game. You can (or could) select wich ones you'll wanna use from the Expansions option on the main menu.
-The rest remains unchanged. Use latest published versions of ArmA2 and DayZ, run both games, copy addons from @dayz, overwrite files from @DaiZy, etc. etc. The important is to not keep both folders under /Steamapps/common/ArmA2 OA in the same place.
-Also, DZ commander listed my DayZ files, wich I got from Steam, as corrupted. That may be because I've tried to downgrade versions in my struggle for playing. But steam, as of today, could also be handing out corrupted files.

And I just needed to say that I found this solution purely by accident. Afther trying everything, I tried running vanilla ArmA2 beta by removing the -mod=@DaiZy argument from the launch parameters to see if the problem continued, proving that verification of game cache isn't working and I needed to reinstall everything. Then I noticed even though I launched the beta version (there is ArmA2, ArmA2 OA, beta and DayZ in my library), DayZ loaded. I cleared the launch parameter line (there were just the -nosplash and -skipintro arguments at this point) and launched it again, and it lauched as DayZ again, even though Steam is not instructed to load it. Was when the solution hit me, Steam must be trying to load both mods at the same time and causing the problems I'm having. Just put away the @DayZ folder and it worked.

That may work out some problems. Enjoy.

    1. Wow, nice work! Thanks for that.

I haven't investigated the Steam version of DayZ at all. I'll have to do that later on this week to fully understand it. No doubt people will be having trouble with it sooner or later, so it's best I figure it all out now.

Thank you so much for going to the trouble of posting your findings here. It really is a big help and I very much appreciate it.

    1. Sadly, that's one of the things you can't do. The health system of the ArmA games is very different from DayZ. There's no blood in ArmA, that's just for DayZ. So sadly the AI units are effectively ArmA units and don't have blood. Only you have blood.

It's a bit frustrating, I know, but there's just nothing can be done about it. But AI friends are easily replaced.

  21. How do I repair vehicles? I'm confused onto what to do as far as "Save Vehicle" goes and what not. Mind pointing me in the right direction?

    Many Thanks

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Repairing vehicles can be a long process. The "Save vehicle" thing is just a hangover from online DayZ where there used to be problems with vehicle locations and condition being saved in the central database. The "Save vehicle" function forced the server to update the vehicle status in the database. In single player it does nothing (everything is saved when you suspend the game), so just ignore it.

To repair a vehicle you need a toolbox and some parts. The parts you need will vary depending on the damage to the vehicle. If you get in the driver's seat of a ground vehicle, you'll see some indicators in the top left detailing the hull, engine, fuel tank and wheels as well as a bar showing the amount of gas/petrol in it. The parts will be shown as green, orange or red.

You don't need to completely repair a vehicle to get it moving. Broken windscreen/windshield glass will only be inconvenient. A flat tire (shown as orange) won't stop you driving either. With a toolbox in your gear, you can repair any part of a vehicle.

I'm going to imagine that a wheel is missing, the hull is damaged and that the engine is broken. Vehicle parts can be found in industrial buildings. I need six empty slots in my main inventory to pick up a car wheel. Once I've got one, I approach the side of the vehicle and open the mousewheel menu (you may have difficulty getting the menu to come up - just move around the vehicle a bit until it does) and scroll down until I highlight the broken wheel. It can be difficult to tell from the list which one it is, but a visual inspection of the vehicle will tell you if it's the right front or whatever.

Once I choose to repair it (note: the part must be in your main inventory), the player character will begin an animation - don't move until it's finished and the new part will be fitted. Repairing the engine works the same way. Repairing the hull requires scrap metal which takes up three inventory slots. Note that the fuel tank is different from the fuel. Fitting the fuel tank is done in the same way as repairing the wheels or the engine.

Adding fuel involves using jerry cans. When you find one, it has 20 litres of fuel in it and you add it by standing next to the vehicle and choosing "refuel" to pour it in. Again, don't move until the animation is finished and text appears to say you've added the fuel. You can take the empty jerry can to a fuel store and refill it. These are long white horizontal cylinders normally found beside petrol/gas stations (they can be found in other places too and not all filling stations have one). Just stand next to it, open your inventory and right click on the jerry can and select "refill jerry can".

The fuel tank doesn't have to be full to use the vehicle. It's usually easiest to stick on or two cans of fuel in it and then drive it to a fuel store to make the walking back and forth a lot shorter. Helicopters take a lot of fuel - it takes 50 jerry cans to completely fill a Huey!

    1. Just a quick thought : you might need to copy the Arma 2 addons folder into your Operation Arrowhead folder. Some people reported that DaiZy fails to launch the game as 'Combined Operations' (wich is Arma 2 + OA) - you should try to merge those folders manually.

      Delete
    2. Ah, wait. You're getting the "addon 'dayz_anim' requires addon 'CASigns2" error. It's because your ArmA 2 isn't updated. Go here, download and install the update:

Also as Haleks says, copying the addons folder is always a good idea. Go into your ArmA 2 program folder (after you've updated it) and find the "Addons" folder. Right click and 'copy' it. Then go into your Operaton Arrowhead program folder and 'paste' it there.

    1. Oh, no worries. If I'm going to post this stuff, I feel the least I can do is to support it.

The skin problem is one that's a bit embarrassing because that's my fault. In trying to include as much content as possible, the non-backpack skin got included. Shit.

      There are a few solutions:

      1. Restart until you get the right skin. Not working for you, so moving on...
      2. Be a female. They don't have the problem and although they can't change clothes, that doesn't affect how visible you are to AI units and zombies
      3. Use Support Call to change skin. Support Call involves installing just one file, so it's easy. Then you can change skin to anything you want. Skins that support backpacks are marked with a (B) in the preview pane
      4. Use a different version from our forums. Every subsequent version has removed the bug and has extra features too. The Chernarus Factions one has better AI handling for example.
      http://kodabar-dayz-daizy-single-player-forum.1084782.n5.nabble.com/Unofficial-DaiZy-releases-f1086.html

It's random how many respawns it should take to get you a backpack skin. There are three possible skins, I think and two of them support backpacks. It's only the guy with the scarf and headphones that doesn't, so a couple of goes should be enough. I think you're just unlucky. Sorry about that.

When playing online, you need to remove (if you have them) the following files from the Addons folder:
      KRON_SupportCall.pbo
      loki_lost_key.pbo

Your single player files will be in @DaiZy (or similar) whereas the normal DayZ files will be in @DayZ

Make sure you are starting DayZ with an icon that includes -mod=@DayZ or using DayZ Commander, etc to start it.

I have two groups of shortcut: one for online play and one for offline single player. I change the icons of the single player ones so I can tell which is which at a glance.

Is this also a Bug like that in the headset-scarf picture? Or is it normal that I always only have the weapon+ magazines and the biggest backpack at the start?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's normal. You should spawn with a weapon and a backpack. Sometimes it's a bigger backpack, sometimes it's a better weapon. We gave a lot of thought to the starting inventory and it was tricky to choose. As there's a good chance of starting near some bandits, it was felt that you should have a half decent weapon with limited ammunition so you don't die in the first ten seconds. I'm not sure we made the right choice, but it seemed like it at the time.

To be fair, this is just the default version. On our forum there are different versions with different features and even different maps. Some of them have better AI handling, other have very limited starting inventories, others have bandit groups and even chopper patrols.

  29. SO it screws up multiplayer dayz forever

and how do u back up dayz so u can play multiplayer

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It doesn't interfere with multiplayer dayz in any way.

DayZ is installed in the @DayZ folder and is called by -mod=@DayZ in the game shortcut.
DaiZy is installed in the @DaiZy folder and it called by -mod=@DaiZy in a separate shortcut.

The two are completely separate and don't interfere with each other in any way. I play DayZ online and DaiZy offline and have been doing so for over a year without any problems.

The only thing to note is if you install the cheats. We very carefully chose SupportCall and Lost Key because they don't clash with anything and they are not identified as hacks (they both pre-date DayZ). Servers will refuse the connection if you have those present. You won't be kicked from the server or banned. I have a standing offer whereby I will pay to replace the CD Key of anyone who can show they were banned for using single player. No one has ever claimed it.

I explain in a section above that you need to remove KRON_SupportCall.pbo and loki_lost_key.pbo from the Addons folder before playing online. It's a trivial procedure though and only necessary if you add the cheats.

There are some other single player versions out there. They're patched-up versions of Kronzky's original single player. Kronzky's version wasn't developed after 1.7.2.5 of DayZ so the patched-up versions modify a couple of the DayZ files and over-write them. The instructions supplied by the "authors" of these patched-up versions tend to involve just placing the modified files directly into the @DayZ folder so they will mess it up and prevent multiplayer from working. Our version has no such problem because it's written from scratch and we know what we're doing.

    2. What about dayz origins is there a map for that for this

      Delete
    3. On our forum, we have many different versions with extra features. We have versions for every map... except Origins.

      http://kodabar-dayz-daizy-single-player-forum.1084782.n5.nabble.com/

Origins has been a problem. The guys who put it together have claimed copyright on it because they've included a couple of player character models that they designed themselves. They've also been very tight with their files, not distributing them, but hiring out the servers themselves. So no one has had any access to the files to reverse engineer them for single player.

We have recently managed to get hold of the server files and a couple of our guys have had a look through them and expressed interest in creating an Origins version, but we don't have one ready at the moment. Should one be developed, we're unsure what the Origins guys would have to say about it. If they were to continue with their copyright claims, we'd have to back off.

I don't agree with the way that the Origins team have gone about things, especially as 95% of their mod is other people's work. But things are as they are. We may have an Origins version ready in a while, or we may not. I don't know at the moment. Sorry.

Oh, now I meant to ask you. What gave you the impression that this mod would screw up multiplayer? I'm looking at rewriting this article at the moment and I'm wondering what I can do to improve it.

Downloading stuff from the forum is straightforward. Just go to the "Unofficial DaiZy Releases" section and there's a thread for each of them. In most cases, the procedure is:

      1. Use DayZ Commander to download map files
      2. Create a new folder for the mod - eg @NamalskSP
      3. Copy the files from the folder that DayZ Commander made to that new folder you just made
      4. Download the RAR file from the forum and extract the contents to that new folder, overwriting anything that it asks about
      5. Place the mission file in the Missions folder
      6. Create a shortcut that calls the folder you made - eg -mod=@Namalsk

Here's the forum page for one of the Namalsk versions

    1. If you spawn in with the skin with headphones, scarf, etc), there is a problem.

    1. This is not written for ArmA 3. As ArmA 3 is still in alpha and changing all the time, it'd be a lot of wasted work and there would be so many bugs (and thus constant questions) that it's pointless to make one.

ArmA 3 beta isn't available to anyone at the moment, so there's no way we could include ArmA 3 beta content. Mods rely on using the game content from your computer, so if you don't have ArmA 3 beta (and I can't see how you could), then there's no way this mod could use it.

It is possible to run this with ArmA 3 alpha. It is buggy and I don't particularly recommend it, but PsiSyndicate has put together a video showing how to do it with these files.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC_e9Fe94MI

If you want to have a go, you're on your own. I don't provide support for using ArmA 3 with this as there are just so many bugs and the potential for so much to go wrong that I'd just never be able to provide decent answers.

      Delete
    2. I apologise. It seems the ArmA 3 beta has been pushed out now.

Depending on how the beta content is coded, it may or may not be present if you use it to play single player. Sorry, but I just don't know if it will be there.

    1. No worries. You're right to be suspicious though.

There are other single player mods out there, but they're all just patched up versions of Kronzky's original and lack the features that we have (such as AI players, vehicles, etc). I have seen people on YouTube offering single player installers and launchers and many of those do steal CD keys.

Many people have asked why we don't make an installer or a launcher for this single player mod. It certainly would make things easier and it's not that hard to do, but I want people to be sure that this will not harm their computer or steal their CD key. It's also why I offer an unconditional guarantee that I will pay to replace the CD keys of anyone who can show they were banned or had their key stolen through using our single player mod.

Anyway, all that gloomy stuff aside, I hope you enjoy playing it. Note that this is just the basic default version that is designed to simulate online play on public hive servers. On our forums (embedded above) we have many different versions that do things like improve the AI, offer goal-based missions or support for different maps. You might like to give them a go too.

  34. If anyone wants to use a singleplayer launcher try Spirited Machine's ArmA II Launcher:

    http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241

It allows you to select any mods with a simple check box, and you can set other startup parameters such as -winxp -cpucount etc.

I'd also recommend using the mod folder method for Loki's Lost Key and the Support Call mods, rather than just placing them in the main addons folder.

    1. Thanks for the tip, Dave - that's a great suggestion.

I've generally avoided using installers and launchers to prevent any risk to the user. There are some "single player installers" out there on YouTube videos which are actually nasty little utilities designed to steal your CD key. So to avoid any possibility of the even the hint of that with our proper single player mods, I've not purposely not provided anything executable. I've been experimenting recently with writing an installer batch file to automate the installation process in an open and fully transparent manner - but it's a frigging nightmare trying to read registry values (for the file paths) for every possible installation type into a batch file and still keep it understandable for others.

But that looks like a nice little launcher utility and with it being hosted on Armaholic, that's as close to an absolute guarantee of the safety of it as I think we could get. I'll take a good look at that when I've got some free time and see if I can write up some simple documentation for using it.

I would also prefer to recommend installation of Lost Key and Support Call as mod folders, but have avoided doing it as it complicated matter. But that launcher may well obviate their use to the point where I can recommend the use of mod folders.

Thank you so much for taking the time to suggest this. I really appreciate it.

PS If you enjoy this version, have a look through our forum for a ton of other versions with different features and map support.

    2. Yeah I like the SM ArmA II Launcher, I have been using it for a few years without any problems.

There is a question above about rearming your Survivor buddies, I think you can order them to pick up weapons and ammo lying around by pressing F2, F3 etc, then press 6 and there should be a "Take..." option, or a "Rearm at..." option.
If you have ammo or a weapon, drop it on the floor and order them to take it as above, because they don't seem able to enter buildings.

    3. I think you're quite right about rearming your survivor chums. We've got more limitations that there are normally with ArmA missions in that this is a mod of a mod. Some of the decisions that Rocket took when programming DayZ impact us considerably - for instance, zombies are civilian units and you have blood, but AI units don't. So there are limits to what the AI can do.

On our forum there are some versions (most notably Factions) which change the way the AI units behave, but they still remain terrified of indoor spaces.

  36. hi Kodabar, i don't know if you know this but another solution to the skin that doesn't allow backpacks is to press 0 twice, getting the magic box and taking out the camo clothing and changing into it. this will change your skin to something that's actually from DayZ/DaiZy. you can change back to the civilian clothing if you want and this will give you the original survivor skin. I just thought I'd let you know, using Call Support doesn't always work for me. ~~~ also, thanks for the great tutorial!! i never would have figured it out otherwise

  37. Hi Kodabah,This mod is great I really enjoy using it. I've been using it for a week and all seemed fine but for some reason, loot has stopped spawning in churches and supermarkets e.t.c. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this, thanks

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. We didn't plan on having the mod run for a long time, so there are certain issues that crop up over time. The dead bodies all require CPU time to keep track of them, as does spawned loot. So if you play for long enough, it's likely that the CPU time required will become greater until it can no longer keep up in real-time. It's the same reason why DayZ servers get rebooted regularly.

Using an out-of-date beta patch can also cause problems with loot and zombie spawning, but you've played fine up until now, so I think we can rule that out. I also have to wonder if loot is spawning, but a bit slowly. For instance, if you go into a building and there's no loot, would there be if you return ten minutes later?

There is one obvious (if a bit clunky) fix. All that matters to your game is your location and inventory (that's all the online public hive servers track). If the game isn't running well, then you could just start a new game and use Lost Key to spawn yourself the same inventory items and teleport you to the same location. It's a bit awkward, but it will work.

Some of our newer versions (on our forum) have routines that will dispose of dead bodies, etc after a fixed a mount of time to stop clutter and ease CPU strain. Those routines were included precisely because of situations like this in long term play.

Check that the files are in @DaiZy\Addons and not just in @DaiZy (it's very easy to put them in the wrong place). And also make sure that the shortcut contains -mod=@DaiZy (it's easy to spell it wrong or miss out the @ symbol).

If you can't get it working, please write back and I'll help you get it working. If you get completely stuck, I can install it for you through Teamviewer (if you're okay with that).

    2. I have the very same error and I am using the steam version. I have triple checked the file locations (Addons) and also made sure that the shortcut contains the -mod=@DaiZy however I still get the error. If it's of any use, my Launch arma oa beta is not a exe application but a windows batch fill instead, might this cause any problems?

I also tried placing @dayz folder somewhere else so that the two will not be launch together and also tried launching it without the shortcut parameters.

    3. Crikey Marcus, I think you've done something funny here. There are batch files in the OA folder, but I don't suggest using them to run the game. There should be an actual icon called "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch". That's the shortcut you should be modifying. Making a shortcut to a batch file and adding bits in there won't work unless the batch file is modified to take external command switches.

If you don't have the "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" icon as it appears in the article above, then you may not have the beta patch installed.

    1. I'm sorry to say that that means that things are not quite right. Either the files are not in the right place or the shortcut isn't correct.

DayZ disables the 'single player' button so the files from our rar file put it back.

Your folders should be laid out like this:
      1. OA\@DayZ\Addons
      2. OA\@DaiZy\Addons
(Where OA is your Operation Arrowhead folder)

You should have taken the files from 1 and placed them in 2. And then taken the files extracted from our rar and placed them in 2 as well - Windows will ask if you want to over-write the existing files and you do. A common mistake is to place the files in @DaiZy and not @DaiZy\Addons - it's very easy to do.

Then check the shortcut you've made. It must include -mod=@DaiZy (make sure the @ symbol is in there - that's easy to miss too). And make sure you're starting the game with the shortcut - some people make the shortcut but then start the game with DayZ Commander.

Basically, all mods are put in folders called @something\addons and loaded through the shortcut by adding -mod=@something

You can also command them in the standard ArmA way. Select individual units with F keys or select all with the space bar. Use mousewheel menu and pointing to issue commands. eg look at a chopper, press space and "get in" on menu

Also on the forum, we've got a section on LAN play (as people seem to want to call playing single player with multiple players). In short, it is possible to run it as a multiplayer mission, but it was never designed to work this way and it will have bugs. Probably the worst one is that when the player hosting the game dies, they can't respawn, so you need to restart it.

Some people have been able to LAN play just by copying the file from the Missions folder to the MPMissions folder. That certainly doesn't work with every version, but it's worth a go. Otherwise, look on the forum.

What version of DayZ are you running?
Are you using a launcher (Six Play, DayZ Commander, Worrom's Updater, etc) to run the game?
If you're getting an error message, what does it say?
      Are you using Steam?
From where did you obtain your copies of the ArmA games?
Are you able to run vanilla DayZ multiplayer?

    1. You can play it as multiplayer offline (what some people are calling LAN play). It's not satisfactory as there are bugs and limitations (eg if the host dies, then they can't respawn). There is a section on the forum that deals with this:

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There are a few reasons why this might happen.

      1. The beta patch isn't recent - The CBA addons (necessary for Lost Key to work) require a relatively recent beta patch. If you can play DayZ online, then you can discount this.

      2. The CBA addons are installed, but they're not being loaded in the shortcut. Your shortcut should have a section a bit like this:
      -mod=@DaiZy;@CBA_CO;@LostKey
Check the spelling. It's easy to miss an @ symbol or type CBA_CO a little wrongly

      3. You haven't updated Operation Arrowhead. Again, discount this if you can play DayZ online

      4. The CBA addons are installed, but it's the old version. The old version had three folders with it, including one called @CBA_OA, whereas the newere version has just one: @CBA_CO

      5. You haven't restarted your game since installing Lost Key. If you 'resume' an existing game, rather than selecting 'restart', it can lead to problems as the game will try to only use the addons/plugins that were present when you saved the game

      6. Ultimately, it's sometimes possible to still play and use Lost Key even if you get this error. Can you just 'okay' past it and use Lost Key?

Private hive servers tend to have a lot more vehicles. We did have to manually add all the loot tables, so they might not be quite the same.

  55. I have the deleted Chenarus error. When i went to copy the arma 2 addons to the operation arrowhead it said the disk was too full. any help pls?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's because you don't have enough free space on your hard disk to copy the 8GB of files. Luckily there is another way that doesn't require any extra disk space. Follow these steps very carefully as it's easy to make as mistake, especially in the command you need to type. There's a good reason why I don't detail these steps in the article.

      1. First of all, delete that Addons folder from your Operation Arrowhead folder. You've maybe already done this. Make sure it's gone so it isn't taking up all that disk space.

      2. Open an elevated command prompt. You probably haven't done this before, but it's quite easy. On you start menu, find the "Command Prompt" - it's probably in Start > All programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. Instead of left-clicking on it to start it, right click on it and left click on "Run as administrator" on the menu that appears. It will then ask you if you want "...the following program to make changes to your computer" - yes, you do.

Normally when you open a command prompt, there are certain commands that it will refuse to run. By opening an elevated command prompt, you have full access to type the command you need. There's nothing to worry about as you'll only be typing one command and it can't cause any harm.

      3. Now you need to type a command and you need to get it exactly right. It won't do any harm if you make a mistake, but getting even one character wrong will cause it to fail. Just for fun, I can't tell you exactly what to type, because it will depend on where you have your games installed. Here's the command:

      mklink /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Addons" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\Addons"

Okay, so you can see how it's made. The basic command is mklink, you're adding a /d switch to it and then you're naming the destination and the source. What this command does is to make a link between one folder and another. In this case, the destination is the Addons folder in the Operation Arrowhead program folder (you've deleted it in step 1, but this will recreate it). The source is the Addons folder in the ArmA 2 program folder.

In the example I give, the games are installed on drive C and they were bought from Steam. There's a good chance yours are set up in exactly this way. But if your games are installed in a different location, you'll have to change the paths to match. Notice that the source and destination are surrounded by quotation marks - Windows isn't very good at handling spaces in names, so the quotation marks are just there to make sure it understands. Make sure you use quotation marks in the same manner.

If you get the command right, you'll see it say:
symbolic link created for destination <<===>> source
It won't say "destination" and "source", but the actual locations of the folders.

And that's it. You can close the command prompt and you're done. The link is permanent and will remain even after rebooting or the PC being off. If you need to, you can remove the link by deleting the Addons folder from the Operation Arrowhead program folder.

Now, I realise this can seem pretty daunting. If you're not comfortable doing this, I can guide you through it as your doing it or do it for you through Teamviewer. If you need that kind of help, send me an email via kodabarATgmailDOTcom and we'll arrange a time to get it done.

    1. Good question. The short answer is no. The long answer is yes but...

You can edit anything in ArmA. You can change any and every aspect of the game. But the problem is learning how to do this. Once you've learned how to do some basic editing in Arma, it all becomes fairly easy and you won't have any trouble doing what you want to. But there's a very steep learning curve initially. You'll be sitting there screaming at the screen just trying to get a single player unit to appear on the screen. But a few days later, you'll be merging scripts, adding weapons, adding cinematics, etc. But those few days will be hell.

So the short answer is no. If you're prepared to put in the time to learn the system, then the long answer is yes.

  59. Hi Kodabar, I have a small issue with 2018 if you are able to help.

I've recently been playing this again, and it's been fantastic! However, I have found the Old Man at the campfire who I had been expecting to recruit but cannot - there is some of the dialogue referring to his story, but goes no further than stating the death of his son and the conversation ends there.

I may test this from a fresh start, but I am reluctant. Are there any conditions that the player has to meet in order to recruit him? Any pointers you may have would be wonderful.

I am running a 2018 version from around Feb 2014, and the current Arma 2 version. I have had no other issues and gameplay and functionality are still fine.

Many thanks for your time, and I hope you are still achieving all that you wish to. :)

    1. I'm afraid that's one I can't help with. I'm not familiar with the details of playing 2018. My only suggestion is to post on our forum and see if the author replies. Sorry.

    2. Okay, that's fine. I thought I'd check just in case. Many thanks for the reply and I'll see to posting on the 2018 thread at some point in the future!

  60. Hello Kodabar, Thanks for putting up this tutorial on the web. I have several questions I don't know where else to post. Because I used this page to install everything. Everything works as intended, except when I load in the game it says "No entry Bin\config.bin/CfgVehicle/Survivor3_02.scope". I can click continue and game still works. But I just want to fix that, so the message goes away. Secondly, I tried some of the variants, but NONE of them work for me. I getting a message That I can't play/edit, and shows the names of deleted content. It kicks me back to the menu. Guess I the original mods they're based upon. But I'm a bit clueless what they mean with that or where to get them. Lastly, lately when I use the Support Call lately, when airdropping vehicles (or launching UAV) it results in "falling out the sky and explode" on impact? How can I fix that?

    1. The "scope" error normally comes about when the game isn't fully updated, either through the beta patch or through Steam. And it's likely that the other errors come from that as well. Can you tell me a bit about your setup?

From where did you get the ArmA games? Steam, retail, online, pirate?
Can you run the normal online DayZ multiplayer?
Are you using the beta patch?
Have you had any other errors?

The variants do depend on you downloading the original content first. So that if you're installing a Namalsk variant, you need to have downloaded the Namalsk files first before merging the mod files with them. Get those through DayZ Commander.

  61. Hi Kodabar, I just have a random question which is: You know how to make the zeds faster as they used to be back in 2012? All I know so far is that it has something to do with the beta patch, like, let's say you have the beta patch 95417, zombies will run fast like back in the early days of DayZ (2012), but once you upgrade to the latest beta patch, zombies will run slow just like we run. I honestly have no idea what this is, but I'd be so thankful if you find or know a solution for this.

    1. Hmm. Good question. The only way I can really check this is to make a new installation and try an earlier beta patch. That's quite a lot of work though. If I get the time, maybe I'll have a go.

    2. That would be truly nice. I just miss the old zombies so much..

  62. Greetings! I just wanted to know if this would work with the latest DayZ build? The 1.8.6.1. . Thanks

    1. It will, but not completely.

When this was made, the primary concern was to keep it compatible for as long as possible. At the time, DayZ was getting updated often and the previous attempts at single player broke with each update.

So this version worked completely for a long time. But later updates of DayZ altered different files than before and we hadn't been able to predict that. So certain features (like base building) don't work. If I recall correctly, this version supported all features up to 1.8 meaning that anything introduced beyond that point isn't in this. But otherwise it still works.

This isn't being actively updated, so it's not the best DayZ single player mod you can play any more. We have a forum (link below) on which various people make and discuss DayZ single player mods. There's some mods on there with some pretty impressive features, like the ability to recruit and control an army of AI survivors, proper base building, more extensive crafting, etc.

If you have ArmA 3, I would recommend you play the Ravage mod by Haleks. It's really good and I'm very impressed with it. Although not specifically designed to be a DayZ mod, it plays very much like an improved and more difficult version of DayZ. Haleks even managed to licence the STALKER sound effects. I made a video to show it off and the description below it gives you all the links. Being an ArmA 3 mod, it is really easy to install (details in the video), unlike this ArmA 2 based DayZ single player mod.

    2. Thanks for the swift reply. Sucks I can't play ArmA 3 though, my toaster can't handle it lol. But I might try out the other mods you mentioned. Thanks for the great tutorial btw.

  63. Any ideas why I am getting this message?
I created a shortcut as it says in the tutorial and used that to launch it. It worked fine. It broke on launching after the third day playing it. This message appears when I click "resume" to launch the mission. It gets past the stage when it says "recieving" in the middle of the screen and it crashes.

    1. The ltc_game32-106568.dll comes from the Raptr in-game overlay. There's a few possibilities here:

      1. ArmA games don't like Raptr and refuse to load if it's running.
      2. You were using Raptr when you saved your game and you aren't using it now when you're trying to load it. The ArmA games like everything to be the same when you resume a game. So if you were using any different addons, mods, plugins, overlays, etc, you have to keep using them. You can't even update an addon and load a saved game - everything has to remain the same.
      3. You weren't using Raptr when you saved your game, but you are now.

I think it's most likely to be the first one.

    2. I uninstalled Raptr and it worked.
      Thanks,

    1. Yes, there is. On our forum (no registration or login required), there are many variations. This one, for example, comes with an 'No AI' version.

    2. I should mention that many of the mods from our forum contain 'No AI' versions. But many of these mods have not been updated in a while and may not be maintained any more.

I haven't tested or tried any of them in a while, so you're largely on your own. But do give me a shout if you get completely stuck and I'll try to help out.

  66. Kodabar?? why the game is lag? i played it for hours after 8 or 9 hours playing smooth and then the game will lag forever

    1. It's because you've played for so long. When this was designed, we didn't know how people would play and didn't realise people may play for as long as you have. As you move around the map, more zombies, items and vehicles are spawned. They don't un-spawn. So the game has more and more items to keep track of and it eventually slows down.

There's no way to fix this. What you can do is start a new game. When your game is saved, the only things that matter are your location and inventory. If you start a new game, you will lose these. But you can use the built-in magic box or cheats to get you the same inventory and to teleport you to the same location. So you could then carry on (almost) like before.

The magic box is an equipment container that is hidden in the game menus. When in the game, press 0 (zero - on the main keyboard, not on the numeric keypad), press 0 again and you'll see a menu in the top left of the screen. Choose the magic box and a container will appear next to you. It contains many guns and items.

Later versions of DaiZy single player (found on our forums) include item clean-up routines. What this does is to delete items once you've moved away from them. That means the game doesn't have to track them and it doesn't slow down. Unfortunately, we just didn't think of that for this.

  67. Kodabar, i cant play chernarus because it always says that "you cannot play/edit this mission..blablabla, how can i fix this? i just downloaded the latest beta patch and i edit the launcher after that i get this problem, or which beta patch version should i use?

    1. You realise this article is almost five years old, yeah? No matter - it should still work (though I haven't checked in a long time).

That you're getting the single player option on the menu suggests that you've probably installed it properly. DayZ disables the single player menu entry. When you install our files over the top of DayZ (it asks if you want to overwrite - which you do) it knocks out the bit that disables single player. So that you're getting that far is a good sign.

The beta patch doesn't really matter much any more. If you've got ArmA on Steam, it's already updated to include it. And we haven't updated this mod in a long time, nor has DayZ been updated, so it doesn't require a beta patch any later than the last time DayZ got an update.

What is important is the bit in the error message after it says "you cannot play/edit this mission". What does it say there? If it mentions Chernarus, then it hasn't managed to pick up on that content. In which case, copy the "Addons" folder from ArmA 2 to Operation Arrowhead. If it's something else, please tell me and I'll tell you what's wrong.

    1. I think what's happening is that the files are clashing somehow. It's probably due to some files being missing. Try this instead:

      1. Delete your DaiZy folder.
      2. Download this file:
      https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-AjkiwQjJ9QMlRSSmtzTHNMY3M
      3. Extract the @DaiZy folder to your Operation Arrowhead folder
      4. Make a shortcut link like in the article.

  70. I dont have that single player option :/ Help me please

    Replies
    1. Then you've not installed it correctly. Let's make it easier.
      1. Download this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-AjkiwQjJ9QMlRSSmtzTHNMY3M
      2. Open the file you've downloaded. Inside there is a folder called @DaiZy
      3. Place the @DaiZy folder in your Operation Arrowhead folder
      4. Modify your game shortcut to include -mod=@DaiZy (more details int eha article above)

That's all you need to do. The DayZ mod disables the single player option on the main menu. This mod puts that back. If there's no single player option, then you've installed it incorrectly.

      Delete
    2. Thanks, but how to modify the shortcut?

      Delete
    3. Right click the shortcut, select Properties. Inside the box that opens, look for the box marked "Target". Go to the end of the line and add "-mod=@DaiZy" (without the quotation marks).

      Delete
    4. And is there some option to build base? :D

      Delete
    5. No, I'm afraid not. It's the most requested feature, but it's not really possible. You can add base-building (and if you look through the Armaholic site you'll find a couple of addons for it), but it has one unfortunate drawback - zombies and AI units move by following an invisible navmesh that's backed into the landscape files. If you add a base, the zombies and AI don't know about it and will follow the mesh, walking right through anything you've placed. ArmA 3 has the same problem. All we can do is hope that ArmA 4 enables editing of the navmesh at runtime.

    6. Ah, okay thanks, and can u please help me with creating dedicated server? Everytime i created server arma 2 oa server stopped responding when launching

      Delete
    7. You're on your own with that. This was designed purely for single player and doesn't work in multiplayer without heavy modification (which is well beyond my skills). It's not a simple thing to make things work in multiplayer. I've always used a hosted server for such things. But I'm not playing ArmA 2 anymore, so I can't offer any help. Sorry.

    8. Ah, okay, but i dont want to play daizy on dedicated server, i want to know how to fix crashing :/

    9. I don't know. I don't know much about multiplayer. There are many ArmA information sites out there which will guide you through the process.

    1. That was because there too many comments and it went over the limit of 100, which means new ones are not displayed. I've deleted some older comments so they will appear now.

Whilst we're here, I'll mention a bug with this. If, when you start a new game, your character appears wearing a white scarf, then you won't be able to use backpacks. It's because I forgot that backpacks were only introduced in Operation Arrowhead and weren't in ArmA 2. If you appear as that character, restart until you don't. Sorry about that.
