How to install DayZ single player - DaiZy

DaiZy is a mod that allows you to play single player DayZ offline. It has all the same features as the regular online version, including friendly and bandit units (controlled by AI), loot, vehicles and everything else you could possibly want. It's also allows cheating through the additional installation of one or two other files.

Before you start, you need to have DayZ installed. If you haven't got that up and running, go off and read this ridiculously detailed guide that over 800,000 others have used. Go on, I'll wait.

http://kodabar.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/how-to-install-dayz-with-arma-2-free.html

Once you've got DayZ installed it, you can just follow the video above. The files it downloads come from here:

There's a more detailed written installation guide to be found here:
http://kodabar.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/dayz-offline-single-player-practice.html

And here's a guide to installing Loki's Lost Key (that's the cheats thing):
http://kodabar.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/how-to-install-lokis-lost-key-for-daizy.html

There are other variation of DaiZy and support for other maps. Check our forum (embedded below or via the link at the top of the page) for more details of those.

  1. Nice guide!
I have a one question about your computer spec.
What is your cpu and gpu??

    1. I have this in the computer I use for this:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 3GHz
      GPU: Nvidia GTX 260
      RAM: 4GB

Not a very powerful machine. I've also used the same machine with an Nvidia 9800 GT and had it run just as well.

If you need to know if your machine is good enough to run the game, you can download the free version of ArmA 2 and see how well that runs. DayZ will run a bit slower than that (because of all the extra bits), but it's a good guide.

    3. Ah one more quesrtion.
Are you play dayZ high option on 9800GT?

      Delete
    4. Well, your processor is better than mine. A Core 2 Duo has only two cores.

I can't have all the options set to high. Bohemia write games for the military. The ArmA games are like 'lite' versions of those military simulators. They use a lot of CPU power as well as a lot of GPU. It takes a very powerful system to run with everything on high.

I have most things on normal, but I have anti-aliasing, PPAA, vsync and Post-process effects set to disabled. My 3D resolution is 1680 x 1050 and so is my interface resolution. It's important to set the 3D resolution and the interface resolution to be the same - otherwise the game runs slowly and looks ugly.

    5. Ah I try to set disabled anti-aliasing,ppaa,vsync and post process effects too.
      Thanks!

  2. Uh, my game cannot be played, so far, I could only go to mission, and somehow there's a notofication that I couldn't play the DaiZy mod, cause I've deleted Chernarus, which I dont believe I did.. can you troubleshoot me please?

    1. Luckily that's a simple one to fix. The error message is a bit stupid and disingenuous. Go into your ArmA 2 program folder and locate the folder called "Addons". Copy that and paste it into your Operation Arrowhead program folder. That will fix the error.

DayZ mostly uses Operation Arrowhead for its engine and content, but it gets the Chernarus level from ArmA 2. If it doesn't pick up on the ArmA 2 folder properly, it fails to load the Chernarus files and accuses you of deleting them. By copying the Addons folder across, DayZ will find the Chernarus files it needs in the OA folder and not have a problem.

  3. i follow your instructions step by step, but no LaunchArma2 beta patch comes up in my operation arrowhead folder? therefor i cannot play daizy?! please help!

    1. That'll be because you haven't installed the beta patch. Just download, extract and run.
      http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

Warning: The latest beta patch isn't compatible with the CBA addons (if you're using Lost Key) - so use 103718. If you're not going to use Lost Key, then the latest one is fine.

    1. Either the files are not in the right place or the shortcut is incorrect. I'd suggest you try this more detailed guide:

If you still can't get it to work, drop me a line and I'll help you further.

    1. Download this file:
      https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-AjkiwQjJ9QNEdXWExJSVdmR1k

Open DaiZy.rar. There are three things inside
      @DaiZy (a folder)
      Missions (a folder)
      Launch options.txt (a text file)
Extract @DaiZy and Missions to your ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead folder (over-write anything it asks you about)
      Open the text file

      If you are using Steam:
      1. Go to your Steam library
      2. Find Operation Arrowhead and right click on it, selecting Properties
      3. In the box that opens, on the 'General' tab (the first one by default) look for the button marked 'Launch options' and click it
      4. In the box that appears, paste the line from the text file
      5. OK everything
      6. Launch the game from your Steam library

      If you're not using Steam
      1. Go to your Operation Arrowhead folder
      2. Find the game exe (arma2oa.exe if I remember correctly)
      3. Right click it and select 'Create shortcut'
      4. Right click the shortcut you've just created and select 'Properties'
      5. Look for the 'Target' line. At the end of it (make sure it's the end) paste the line from the text file
      6. OK everything
      7. Run the game by double-clicking the shortcut (which you can move to any folder or even the desktop)

  7. Hi, whenever I select the scenario, it loads up as usual, but for some reason I can't load in. Like I guess my character doesn't load in. It's weird. Like I hover over one spot everytime. I cannot move or anything. The hud displays. I hope everything is installed correctly. Thank you very much.

    1. I made a video about that for my YouTube channel showing everything I use. It was made for Windows 7. I use a substantially similar setup under Windows 10 too.

  9. Hello, Kodabar. I have an issue with resuming my save in DaiZy.
It says I cannot play or edit the mission because, ahem- "It is dependent on downloadable content that has been deleted. Ca_missions_acr, woodland_acr, bootcamp_acr, mountains_acr." If you could please help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated because I want to get back to my game of DaiZy. Thank you ;)

    1. That error relates to other mods which were loaded at the time the game was saved, but are not loaded now. When you save in ArmA, it also saves the status of all the mods that are running. So if those mods are not running when you load, it will complain and refuse to continue.

You need to have the same mods running now as you did when saving.

      Delete
    2. I don't know if that is the case. I have the same mods loaded as when I started that save, I have support call, Daizy, and cba. So I have them loaded but it says I deleted something I didn't it's weird. Do I have to import something from the arma folder?

      Delete
    3. Oh hold on. ACR is Army of the Czech Republic. It's a DLC pack. That's what isn't loaded. Check to see if it shows up on the main menu. If it doesn't, you can force it to load by modifying the launch options.

Your launch options ought to include something like:
      -nosplash -mod=@DaiZy
      Change it to:
      -nosplash -mod=@DaiZy;acr

If it still doesn't work, force ACR to reinstall by going to:
      C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\DLCsetup\ACR
(Or whatever your similar path is)
Then run datacachepreprocessor.exe which will force it to reinstall the ACR files.

  10. does it matter what version of DayZ you're trying to SP or even what mod set (i.e. origins, epoch etc) for these files to work? Maybe I'm simplifying it too much but I would think all you need to add is the ability to re-enable single player mode with the mods installed. Thanks so much for all you've done in helping us still play this game.

    1. This single mod was written to work only with DayZ. It doesn't matter which version of DayZ you use (I think we made it when 1.7.2.5 was out) as it replaces certain DayZ files and anticipates changes.

People on the forum did extend it to add different features, but not Epoch (bit complicated trying to replicate all the server stuff).
